Email-based 2FA on every login, with single-use codes that expire in 10 minutes. You can force it for specific IP ranges (say, anyone connecting off-site) while trusting your office network, or the other way around — your call, configured per environment, not an all-or-nothing switch.
Repeated failed logins from an IP trigger an automatic, timed lockout — and the system specifically watches for "username spraying" (many different usernames failing from the same address), not just repeated attempts on one account. Passwords themselves are never stored in plain text: each one is salted and hashed with PBKDF2.
Not just "admin" or "everyone." Give a user view-only access to one asset category and full edit rights on another, control who can retire or delete an asset separately from who can just reassign one, and scope it all per company for multi-entity setups. Every permission change writes to the audit log too.
A free HTTPS certificate is one click away in Settings (Let's Encrypt under the hood), and once it's on, the app automatically sends HSTS along with the security headers it sends regardless — CSP, X-Frame-Options, and nosniff — so browsers enforce the hardening for you. The installer also locks the firewall down to just SSH, HTTP, and HTTPS.

A separate "can dispose" permission lets Finance handle the disposal step on its own, without needing general edit rights over the register — and the system enforces the order: an asset has to already be marked Retired before it can be disposed at all, no skipping the step. Every disposal captures what actually happened to it — sale, scrap, recycling, donation, trade-in, or transfer to another company, plus buyer, price, invoice, condition, and who approved it — so the record shows where the money and the asset went, not just that it's gone.
A read-only login that can search any employee by name and see every asset tied to them — including gear at a work-from-home employee's house — for offboarding. And before a new starter's first day, HR can check the same system and see for themselves which equipment is sitting there marked Free / Available, across IT gear and Facilities items alike, instead of calling or emailing to ask.
